Student Exhibition Center features Rockwell paintings
To Keep Physically Strong by Norman RockwellFree public exhibit honors Boy Scouts, American artists
In recognition of February as Boy Scout month, the College of Arts and Letters’ Public Art Committee at Missouri State University, in partnership with the Ozarks Trail Council of Boy Scouts of America, will present original Boy Scout paintings by Norman Rockwell, Joseph Csatari and Ross B. Young. The paintings will be on display at the Missouri State University Student Exhibition Center (SEC) from January 28-February 12. Read more…

Two received honorary doctorates from Missouri State
Missouri State University granted its ninth and tenth honorary doctorates to Jan Horton and Patti Penny. The nominations were approved by the Missouri State University Board of Governors following recommendations from the Faculty Senate and President Michael T. Nietzel. Read more…

Wyman Scholars Endowment establishes scholarship at Missouri State University
Wyman Center in St. Louis has established a new scholarship program at Missouri State University. The Wyman Scholars Endowment will assist graduates of Wyman programs who choose to attend Missouri State University. Two $5,000 scholarships, available for a total of four years each, are expected to be awarded for the 2009-10 academic year, with the possibility of more being funded in the future. Read more...

Sustainable Actions for a Sustainable Future--Public Affairs Conference 2009A discussion of sustainability leading to sustainable practices is the goal of the fifth Missouri State University Public Affairs Conference. Sustainability is more than a buzzword; it is a concept that defines actions needed for our civilization to survive. Public invited to learn, discuss with experts during free event
Experts will unveil the mysteries if sinkholes, meteorites, mathematics and the universe in a new public science lecture series hosted by the College of Natural and Applied Sciences (CNAS) at Missouri State University. St. John's, JVIC receive $1.4 million in grants from state
CBLS (Center for Biomedical & Life Sciences) lab worker The Missouri Life Science Research Board has awarded $13 million in grants to research and commercialization projects, including two in Springfield totaling close to $1.4 million. The Missouri Life Sciences Research Board, created in 2003 to support biotechnology programs and research, was appropriated the $13 million this year by the Missouri General Assembly. Read more...

BKD establishes second Chair of Accountancy at Missouri State
Missouri State University now has its 26th privately named faculty position. BKD, LLP in Springfield has established the BKD Chair of Accountancy in the Missouri State College of Business. It is the second such chair funded by BKD. Read more...

Bears' Swimming and Diving Finish Regular Season on Top at Lindenwood QuadMissouri State Bears Swimming
The Missouri State men's and women's swimming and diving teams ended regular season competition on Saturday in St. Charles, Missouri with a quad meet win. The Bears’ men, with 198 points, topped Saint Louis at 60, followed by Illinois Institute of Technology and Lindenwood with 37 and 16 points, respectively. Middlebrook leads the Bears at Indiana Relays
Missouri State Bears Track and FieldThe Missouri State track and field wrapped up the two-day Indiana Relays in Bloomington, Indiana. After an impressive Friday showing, the Bears capped off the weekend with four top-five finishes. Sophomore Shawnte Middlebrook earned two podium finishes. Middlebrook set a personal best in the long jump with a distance of 18-10.75, three and a half inches farther than her previous best. Read more...

Baseball Bears picked to win MVC in 2009
The Missouri State baseball team enters the 2009 season as a near unanimous favorite to win the Missouri Valley Conference race according to a vote of the league's coaches, the conference announced. Additionally, senior Brayden Drake (third base) and juniors Ben Carlson (first base) and Tim Clubb (starting pitcher) earned spots on the preseason all-conference team. Read more...

Brooke Kempker, Bears SoftballMissouri State senior outfielder Brooke Kempker has been named to the Missouri Valley Conference's preseason all-conference softball squad, the league office announced Wednesday, January 28. Head coach Holly Hesse's Bears were picked to finish sixth in a vote of the conference's 10 coaches. Read more…
